Web icon My website doesn't run on PHP, can I still use userTrack?

Yes, userTrack can track any website regardless the technology it runs on. The userTrack server does indeed need PHP to run, but the only requirement for the tracked sites is that you can include a small JavaScript tracking file on them.

To see how easy it is to setup a PHP server for userTrack read the next questions.

Setup icon Isn't self-hosting hard? How long does it take to setup?

It will not take more than 20 minutes to set up your own userTrack dashboard.
To make the installation process easier I have created a short guide. In the guide I show 3 different ways you can install userTrack:
  • Option 1: On an existing PHP + MySQL server (10-15 minutes)
If you already have a server, you have to create a new database, upload the userTrack files and run the auto-installer.
  • Option 2: On a new server (10-15 minutes)
I recommend installing userTrack on a dedicated server. No file uploading, coding or configuration required, just follow this short guide.
  • Option 3: As a WordPress plugin (5 minutes)
This is the quickest way to install userTrack. Just add the userTrack WordPress plugin using your wp-admin panel. If your server can run WordPress, it can also run userTrack.

Stats icon Does userTrack affect the performance of my site?

tl;dr: No, not in most cases, userTrack does not affect your site's performance.

There are several things two consider when talking about performance:
  1. Small included tracking JavaScript file size:
To track a site, a small JavaScript file has to be included on all its pages.
The size of userTrack's tracking file is really small, of only 6.5KB minified and gzipped.
In comparison, the Google Analytics tracking script is 18KB minified and gzipped. A HD photo is 300KB.
  2. Optimized tracking performance:
userTrack regularly sends tracking events from the user's browser to your server using either XHR requests or a tracking pixel.
All those very tiny requests are sent asynchronously without affecting the site's loading or usage performance.
  3. Minimal server resource usage:
You can either install userTrack on the same server as the tracked site, or on a different server.
    • If the userTrack backend is installed on a different server, it won't use any resources of the server where your site is hosted on.
    • If the userTrack backend is installed on the same server as your site, every user visit will generate a few extra requests to your server. Those requests are very small and smartly buffered, each request usually translating in a few MySQL queries. Although those queries are optimized, depending on your server you might see increased CPU or disk usage.
Normally if your server can handle your website's traffic, it can also handle userTrack on top.

WordPress icon How is support provided and what does it include?

Support can be provided via email, at support@usertrack.net, while your support period is still valid.
Support will be provided for issues with installation and usage. It does not include any customization or custom new features.
You can also always request new features. If enough people request a specific feature it will be included in future versions.

WordPress icon What are the differences between the normal and WordPress versions?

The standalone and WordPress versions are almost identical.
The main difference is that the WordPress version can be installed as a WordPress plugin.
You can still track WordPress sites with the Standalone version or track non-WordPress sites with the wp plugin version.

Contact icon I have some questions, how can I get in contact?

The quickest way is to use the chat widget in the bottom right corner.
You can also send an e-mail at support@usertrack.net.
😊 I am happy to respond to any questions you might have, be them related to features, installation, privacy, pricing or licensing options.
